The Saints Just Responded to Bucs Signing Tom Brady in Big Way by Reportedly Landing Emmanuel Sanders
By Thomas Carannante
There it is, Saints fans! The move you've all been waiting for New Orleans to make after Drew Brees' contract became official.
According to the latest NFL buzz, Emmanuel Sanders has made it known he's headed down to the Big Easy to play alongside Michael Thomas. The Saints offense is going to be even more explosive in 2020. Get ready, guys.
The details of his contract have since been revealed, and we'd venture to say it's a great deal for the Saints, who had limited cap space to work with this offseason. Brees taking a team-friendly deal certainly helped that, and now he has another weapon to throw to down field.
Sanders, 33, is a 10-year NFL veteran but honestly doesn't look like he's lost a step. He clearly elevated the San Francisco 49ers offense after they acquired him from the Denver Broncos last season, helping Jimmy Garoppolo go more vertical with his throws.
Despite flashing potential in his first few years with the Steelers, Sanders didn't truly break out until he arrived in Denver, logging three straight 1,000-yard seasons before his 2017 was cut short due to a ruptured Achilles. He returned the very next season, played in 12 games and recorded 71 catches for 868 yards and four touchdowns.
The Saints have been searching for any semblance of a No. 2 receiver to pair with Thomas, so expect Sean Payton to have fun with his new threat.
