Taysom Hill's Attitude About Relationship With Drew Brees is a Breath of Fresh Air for Saints Fans
By Jerry Trotta
Sunday proved to be a busy day for the New Orleans Saints as it pertains to the quarterback position. Shortly after the stunning report that confirmed the signing of Jameis Winston, it was revealed that backup Taysom Hill inked an extension with the team.
The deal gives Hill the opportunity to supplant Drew Brees as the starter in New Orleans, and the 29-year-old offered up some heartfelt comments on that concept.
Let's just say that it won't be easy for Hill, who considers Brees a close friend.
Very nice.
To think that Hill was willing to sign elsewhere rather than put added pressure on the 41-year-old is straight-up awesome. One could argue that New Orleans is the best fit for his dynamic skill set. Head coach Sean Payton utilizes the BYU product in such a unique fashion that some other teams wouldn't come close to replicating.
Hill not thinking twice about sacrificing the betterment of his NFL career so that Brees would receive further security as the Saints' starter is perfect. It's probably fair to say we underestimated the closeness of their relationship.
Hill's deal includes $16 million in guaranteed money, and you can bet that he will welcome any role that Payton bestows upon him next season.
