The Saints Need to Match Any Offer Teams Make to Restricted Free Agent Taysom Hill
Give Taysom Hill the keys to the city, and if he wants to spend a weekend studying plays inside the Mayor's office, LaToya Cantrell has GOT to go.
That's the mindset the New Orleans Saints must have with their Mr. Versatility this offseason, as Hill will be a restricted free agent. Concerning for fans, head man Sean Payton believes other organizations will come in to try and snatch him away.
The front office can't allow that to happen.
Hill most certainly proved his value to the Saints last season. He was a playmaker whenever on the field, be it with his arm, rushing, making tackles on special teams, or running routes and hauling in passes from Drew Brees.
In the postseason loss to the Vikings, he rushed for 50 yards, caught a touchdown pass AND threw a 50-yard bomb. Whenever the ball was in his hands, something exciting happened. Payton knows this and wants him back.
The good news is that the Saints attached first-round pick compensation around Hill, so if he signs elsewhere his new team will have to cough up their top 2020 selection.
But Hill is worth more than a first-round pick. With several teams expected to try and lure him away, New Orleans needs to match any offer and make sure he's in a Saint uniform next fall. His future is bright in this league. The team can't afford to let him shine anywhere else down the road.
