Sam Darnold Addresses 'Seeing Ghosts' Comment After Blowout Loss to Patriots
By Adam Weinrib

One rogue NFL Films employee chose to approve the airing of a somewhat controversial quote to spice up a Monday night beatdown, and now 22-year-old QB Sam Darnold has an all-new thing to answer to.
How "Jets" is that?
After Darnold was caught claiming it felt like he was "seeing ghosts" Monday night, thanks to the Patriots' elite defense, the quip was aired on the ESPN broadcast, and opinions quickly began to fly. Was Darnold disrespected? Was he not ready for the spotlight?
If you ask the kid himself, he'll shrug it off, though.
Darnold addressed "seeing ghosts" fallout during spot on @TMKSESPN: "“I’m not embarrassed by it. It is what it is. Worse things have happened to me. But at the same time, yeah, it’s just a bummer that it was live. It’s a lot more common a phrase than it’s being made out to be.”

I would say this is the proper take: no, it's not scarring. But yes, this should not have aired on television.
Those responsible (NFL Films, technically) seem rightfully upset about the one employee who approved the use of this clip, and though Darnold won't go that far, he'd also rather the whole world hadn't seen it.
He's got bigger fish to fry, though; the kid's got a toenail to fix.
Sam Darnold had a toenail removed, per Gase. He'll be fine.
