Sammy Watkins Credits Davante Adams for Catch Against Richard Sherman That Set up Game-Winning TD
By Scott Rogust
After three quarters of action in Super Bowl LIV, the Kansas City Chiefs looked to be dead in the water. Down 20-10 to the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs finally woke up in the fourth act and came away with their 31-20 win in Miami.
Yes, credit can be given to running back Damien Williams for his game-winning touchdown reception. But, you can't forget the play that set that up: Chiefs receiver Sammy Watkins' clutch catch against stud 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman.
When speaking with the media after the game, Watkins gave credit to Green Bay Packers wideout Davante Adams. Why so? He studied Adams' game film to learn how to beat Sherman.
Game recognizing game.
In fact, Adams thanked Watkins for the shoutout. That's pretty awesome from the Green Bay WR. While he was upset he wasn't playing in the big game, he still has plenty of love and respect for Watkins.
If this year's playoffs showed us anything, it's to never throw the ball in Sherman's direction. Kirk Cousins learned that the hard way in the NFC Divisional Round.
Aaron Rodgers didn't fare much better either in the NFC Championship Game.
But, the Chiefs were a whole different beast. Watkins finished as the second-most effective receiver for KC, catching 5-of-6 targets for 98 yards. As it turns out, Chiefs fans have Adams to thank for that.
