San Francisco Giants Reportedly Hire Scott Harris as New General Manager
In a savvy offseason move, the San Francisco Giants have hired former Cubs assistant general manager Scott Harris as their new general manager. Harris played a substantial role in helping the Cubs end their World Series drought in 2016.
This is a considerable development, seeing as the Giants have been without a GM (technically) since the September 2018 dismissal of Bobby Evans. Since last November, Farhan Zaidi has been leading all operations, without a right-hand man.

Rather than replace Zaidi in his role, of course, the Giants are expecting the two to complement each other in coordinated front office decisions.
Scott Harris has long been seen as a future GM. He was an integral part of the Chicago Cubs’ rise and comes with the highest recommendations from Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer. Skills-wise, he should be an excellent complement to Giants president of baseball ops Farhan Zaidi.

Zaidi, for his part, said in his postseason press conference, "It’s really about just sharing the load of managing the overall operation." It seems like they've definitely chosen the right man for this job. Next for the Giants is to find the right manager for their ball club, with Joe Espada still looming as the presumptive favorite.

With longtime manager Bruce Bochy retiring, the Giants are doing a good job retooling their front office in this time of upheaval so they can make the best possible choice on their next manager, as well as keep an aging team moving in the right direction.
