Scott Boras' Latest Quote on Dallas Keuchel Will Remind You Why You Hate Him
By James.r
The window to sign Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel is finally open now that the MLB Draft is here, as teams can officially sign one of these guys without forfeiting a pick in the process. This means that the two former All-Stars will finally end their free agencies soon. One would think, anyway.
Right on cue, Scott Boras, famed stickler and agent for Keuchel, whipped out an interesting quote in discussing the former AL Cy Young winner:
Oh, boy.
This is yet another instance of Boris being too stubborn for his (and his clients') own good. After holding out for a rich multi-year deal all offseason, Keuchel somehow still remains without a job over a quarter of the way through the campaign.
While it could be argued that this is an issue of the owners not giving the players the contracts they deserve, that's irrelevant until the MLB and the labor union negotiate a new CBA. At this point, Boras needs to allow Dallas to sign something.
While holding out for what a player sincerely believes is a fair deal is understandable in many respects, the process can reach a point in which a guy is only hurting himself by remaining unsigned. The 31-year-old Keuchel is undeniably declining, and this season may be his last chance to sign a multi-year deal altogether.
This latest quote makes us wonder if Boras will actually let him to do it.
