Scottie Pippen Wildly Claims He Would Average 40 Points Per Game on Today’s Rockets
By Ian Anderson
It seems like these debates between what basketball generation is superior are never going to end, and Scottie Pippen has just weighed in with an incredibly bold statement.
The former Bulls and Rockets legend recently came out and said that he would average 40 points per game if he were playing for the modern Houston Rockets.
This claim is utterly ridiculous, especially considering there have been only two seasons in which a player has averaged over 40 points per game. Of course, both such seasons belong to the same person, Wilt Chamberlain, who achieved the feat in the 1961-62 and the 1962-63 seasons.
The only reason that Pippen even bothered to make these absurd comments is because of how the recent jaw-dropping performances of Rockets guard James Harden.
Harden dropped 55 points Wednesday night and dropped another 54 points on Friday. Even with the historic season The Beard is enjoying, he's still averaging less than 40 points per game.
Meanwhile, Pippen never averaged more than 22 points per game in a season, and shot just 32.6% from 3-point range. Even in Mike D'Antoni's offense it's hard to imagine a scenario in which Pippen were able to put up 40 on a consistent basis.
