Seahawks Anticipating a Big 2019 From Shaquem Griffin
By Seth Carlson
A physical disability isn't stopping one particular Seahawks player from wanting bigger and better things in his second season as a pro. And if you ask around team HQ, you'll hear more than a few voices backing Shaquem Griffin to have a standout campaign this fall.
The Seahawks linebacker, a fifth-round pick in the 2018 draft, garnered national attention during a stellar college career at UCF in which he famously played at a dominant level despite missing a left hand. Griffin, who had the lower portion of his arm amputated as a child, has not let the hindrance get in his way, instead turning it into what he hopes to be a long and successful NFL career.
In his rookie season, he recorded 11 tackles as a starter on Seattle's defense alongside his older brother, cornerback Shaquil. The younger Griffin is expecting big things in 2019, and hopes that adding some weight to his already stout 227-pound frame will assist in taking his production to a higher level.
The linebacker is expected to come off the edge more often this season, which should help him get in the sack column for the first time in his career. He has also impressed in OTAs so far, getting singled out for praise from Seahawks special teams coordinator Brian Schneider. It looks like the inimitavble linebacker is poised to make himself a one-man show this season.
