Seahawks Can Complete Their Offseason With This Sneaky Move
By Scott Rogust
The Seattle Seahawks had themselves a busy offseason. They didn't add much through free agency, but they've made some notable subtractions on their roster. That's not ideal, especially considering the rival San Francisco 49ers drastically improved by way of trades and the NFL Draft.
Despite that, the Seahawks can salvage their offseason by making one signing. No, it's not Jadeveon Clowney or Everson Griffen. Rather, it's former New Orleans Saints guard Larry Warford.
While many were initially shocked to see the Saints cut ties with Warford, it made sense, considering they saved over $7 million in cap space and drafted a successor in Cesar Ruiz out of Michigan. Warford was a good interior lineman for the Detroit Lions at the start of his career, but he seriously shined down in the Big Easy, growing into a premier interior blocker and reaching the Pro Bowl in each of his three years donning the black and gold.
Even with his accolades and impressive play, Warford is reportedly only asking for a contract that will pay him $7 million annually. That's right up Seattle's alley.
Not too long ago, the Seahawks cut ties with center Justin Britt and guard DJ Fluker in an effort to free up cap space. While many thought that the extra cash would go towards a pass rusher, it should definitely go to Warford.
Quarterback Russell Wilson is in a division where the likes of Nick Bosa, Aaron Donald, and Chandler Jones terrorize him twice a year. While he's athletic and agile enough to escape the pressure, you still need to protect him. Warford will do just that, as last season he allowed just 32 pressures on 601 snaps.
If the Seahawks really want to win games in 2020 through the air and on the ground, they need to sign Warford to a deal. You have $14 million in cap space, Seattle, so just do it already!
