This Seahawks-Chargers Trade for Desmond King Will Address Seattle's Secondary Issues
By Michael Luciano
The Los Angeles Chargers could put together one of the best secondaries in the league in 2020, as former Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris signed with LA and joined stars like Derwin James, Casey Hayward, and Desmond King.
The Chargers might be on the verge of trading one of those pieces, however, as Daniel Popper of The Athletic claims that there is a chance the Chargers move off King, as Harris is expected to take his place in the slot.
If King becomes available, the Seattle Seahawks should take a chance on him, as he only carries a $2.2 million cap hit next season.
King will likely require a second-round pick in any sort of trade. Luckily, Seattle has two of them this year, and they have the cap space to sign him to a new extension. A second-rounder by itself, or a third-round pick paired with a late-round selection, should be enough to get a deal done.
King could transform their secondary due to his experience in a zone-heavy defense in LA while boosting their return game.
King is a former All-Pro who has established himself as one of the premier slot defenders in all of football. While he might not meet the benchmarks for size that Carroll often requires his defensive backs to meet, King continuously makes plays, and that will make him a valuable member of the Seattle secondary.
Clock's ticking.
