3 Contract Extensions the Seahawks Need to Prioritize Right Now

For the sake of saving the Seattle Seahawks from enduring more media scrutiny, head coach Pete Carroll should avoid speaking on the Colin Kaepnerick situation and focus most of his energy at identifying players with expiring contracts that deserve extensions.

So long as Russell Wilson is under center, Seattle will be in the Super Bowl conversation, but not if the franchise doesn't continue to properly build around him. With this in mind, here are three players that the Seahawks should look to extend as soon as possible.

3. Jacob Hollister

The Seahawks' offseason signing of Greg Olsen is still shocking when you consider that Jacob Hollister really burst onto the scene in 2020 after starting tight end Will Dissly suffered a season-ending injury in Week 4. If given the opportunity, Hollister can became a reliable starter and that should be Seattle's long-term plan for him after Olsen's one-year deal expires. After all, the 26-year-old's deal will also run out after the upcoming season.

2. KJ Wright

No, this list is not pigeon-holed to long-term extensions. KJ Wright will be entering his age-31 season in 2020, and he proved last year that he can still be a productive player. For the year, the Pro Bowl linebacker registered 132 tackles, 11 passes defensed, and 3 interceptions. Wright and stud Bobby Wagner form a formidable tandem in the middle of the Seahawks defense, and we don't see anything wrong with the organization offering the veteran a reasonable two-year extension.

1. Quandre Diggs

The Seahawks acquired Quandre Diggs from the Detroit Lions in October in exchange for a fifth-round pick and the early indicators suggest that Seattle made out like bandits. In just five starts, the 27-year-old safety logged 21 tackles, three interceptions -- one of which was returned for a touchdown -- three pass deflections and one forced fumble. Another productive campaign could see Diggs demand top dollar a year before his contract expires after the 2021 season. In our eyes, the former Texas Longhorn deserves an extension right now and the Seahawks should offer him one before he becomes an even hotter commodity.
