DK Metcalf's Advice to NFL Rookies Proves He's Got Brains as Well as Brawn
By Sam Dunn
DK Metcalf was the toast of the NFL and social media when his essentially superhuman physique and big-time performance at the 2019 Combine snagged headlines. He went on to deliver a spirited rookie campaign for the Seattle Seahawks, hauling in 58 catches for 900 yards and seven touchdowns, and he's clearly learned a thing or two after his maiden voyage in the league.
Look no further than his very specific, very careful advice for the new rookie class set to enter the NFL: In team meetings, be the last one to sit down.
Just like riding the school bus when you're a kid, you had better not take the big kid's seat! Both literally and figuratively, this advice sounds right on the money. Defer to the veterans, let them set the tone, keep your mouth shut if you can manage it, and soak up all the education you possibly can.
Metcalf, having gone from college life in Mississippi to the well-oiled machine that Pete Carroll presides oveer in Seattle, obviously knows a thing or two about the learning curve. And based on his performance as a first-year player, he went about his business the right way.
Seahawks fans have got to be impressed with this kid's maturity after just one year at the pro level through his desire to help the newest of the new blood. He may just be 22 years old, but his value to the team ought not be understated.
