The Seahawks Fleeced the Lions in the Quandre Diggs Trade to No One's Surprise
By Michael Luciano
Every year in the NFL, there are a handful of trades wherein one team looks like the immediate "winners" of the deal while the other appears stupid for giving a player away at such a discounted price.
The Seattle Seahawks managed to pull off such a trade when they stole Quandre Diggs, a quality safety that the Detroit Lions signed to a three-year contract extension just a season before, from the Lions in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
Diggs only played five games last season for the Seahawks, but what a spectacular five games it was. He intercepted three passes while establishing himself as a potential Pro Bowl candidate for the 2020 season.
With the compensation Matt Patricia and the Lions received for such a rangy and instinctive safety, Detroit selected NFLPA Collegiate Bowl star Jason Huntley, a slippery kick returner currently competing for a roster spot with Ty Johnson. All signs point to Seattle getting the better return in this deal unless Huntley breaks out.
Nothing like trading a potential Pro Bowl safety who immediately became a starter on a playoff team for a fourth-string running back that isn't even a lock to make the roster. Master negotiator, that Bob Quinn!
