Latest Seahawks-Jadeveon Clowney Update Suggests Seattle Needs to Sign Everson Griffen Immediately
By Thomas Carannante
The rollercoaster ride Seattle Seahawks fans have dealt with in terms of conflicting reports surrounding Jadeveon Clowney has been significant, and the latest buzz suggests they've reached the lows once again.
According to NFL Insider Mike Garafolo, the chances of the Seahawks reuniting with Clowney are "slim to none."
While Clowney's price tag is reportedly dropping, this still doesn't come as a big surprise. The Seahawks have just under $15 million in cap space remaining and still need to focus on the upcoming NFL Draft, meaning general manager John Schneider would have to do some serious financial tinkering to make room for everyone.
Realistically speaking, if the Seahawks were going to bring Clowney back, it would've happened at the onset of free agency. Now, they need to focus their attention on Everson Griffen, who will be exponentially cheaper, to fill the void on defense.
Griffen, though an aging veteran, can perform admirably in Clowney's place, as he's proven across 10 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. The 32-year-old has been a Pro Bowler in four of the last five seasons and is among the best at getting to the quarterback and stuffing the run.
The pipe dream that is Clowney coming back to Seattle needs to be abandoned and more realistic options should be explored as soon as possible.
