Seahawks Fans Are Going to Love Mel Kiper's Projected Second-Round Picks for Seattle
By Michael Luciano
The uncertainty surrounding defensive end Jadeveon Clowney in free agency and the disappointing development of former first-round pick LJ Collier has led many, including ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., to believe that the Seattle Seahawks will load up on defensive linemen in the 2020 NFL Draft.
After using the first of their two second-round picks on speedy Cal safety Ashtyn Davis, Kiper expects them to pick Auburn defensive lineman Marlon Davidson with the No. 64 overall selection.
Davidson lined up as an edge rusher during his time at Auburn, but has all but confirmed with his combine numbers that he's best served as a defensive tackle. He is freaky strong, and that power mixed in with some plus block deconstruction ability and run defense makes him an ideal Seahawk defensive lineman.
While he's not the greatest athlete in the world, as evidenced by some bad change of direction ability and some issues with tackling in the open field, his power and speed off the line should be enough to make him a solid second-round selection.
Seattle is always looking to add versatility along their defensive line, but they need to nail it at that position more than ever this year given how free agency has ravaged them. Davidson will need some coaching, but his potential in Seattle defense is tantalizing given his versatility.
