Seahawks QB Depth Chart if They Sign Cam Newton
By Michael Luciano
The Seattle Seahawks have one of the best starting quarterbacks in all of football in Russell Wilson, but the only other signal-caller on the roster is former Washington State gunslinger Anthony Gordon, meaning that Pete Carroll needs to find a quality backup should disaster strike and Wilson miss time.
Luckily, a former MVP who can make plays with his legs is still available in former Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton.
Newton has reportedly accepted that he might not be handed a starting QB job as a free agent and is instead looking at backup gigs. Going to a run-heavy team like Seattle with plenty of pieces around him and a culture that would allow his wonderful personality to shine seems like the best fit from a football and social perspective.
With Cam available to run a few plays a game as the backup and Gordon's explosive right arm in town, Seattle will have their quarterback questions behind Wilson emphatically answered.
Wilson is clearly a top-shelf quarterback, and the Seahawks could back him up with a former MVP that still has a lot of gas left in the tank and a prospect who led the nation in passing in college. That would make for one of the most complete and deepest QB rooms in the league.
