Seahawks Rule Jadeveon Clowney Out for Week 15 Clash With Panthers
By Jerry Trotta
After admirably wrestling through injuries for the last month or so, Jadeveon Clowney appears to have finally succumbed to his rash of ailments.
Looking to bounce back after Sunday night's humbling loss to the Rams, the Seahawks have ruled out the star pass rusher ahead of their Week 15 showdown against the Panthers due to his lingering core muscle injury and an apparent stomach virus.
Clowney missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but was able to get in a limited session on Friday, where he clearly showed he wasn't game-ready. This will be the second game the former No. 1 overall pick has missed this year.
With the three-time Pro Bowler shelved, Seattle will need other members of their defense to step up. After a slow start to his tenure with the Seahawks, Clowney has come on strong in the second half of the season.
Across 12 games, the South Carolina product has tallied 30 tackles (six for loss), three sacks, four forced fumbles, one interception and 13 quarterback hits.
The silver lining for Pete Carroll, however, is the likely return of fellow defensive lineman Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah after he sat out during last Sunday's loss with a neck injury.
Still, Clowney's absence will be felt in the trenches against Carolina as the Seahawks look to limit the damage from Christian McCaffrey.
