Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson took a a beating in the backfield during the 2019 season. He was sacked 48 times last year after being sacked 51 times in 2018. That is unacceptable.

With that in mind, the Seahawks front office decided to try to help the situation next time around by signing former Pittsburgh Steelers lineman BJ Finney to a tidy two-year deal in free agency.

Just $8 million maximum over two years? That's a small price to pay to bolster things in the trenches.

Finney played in 59 career games for the Steelers dating back to 2016. He has played at center and guard, and his versatility is sure to be a boon for the Seahawks as they rally to make another run at the NFC in 2020.

Duane Brown anchors the line for the Seahawks, and was named a Pro Bowl alternate this past season. George Fant left for the New York Jets in free agency, and Germain Ifedi is also a free agent. Given how many times Wilson was taken down in 2019, some change up front is a welcome development.

Signing Finney is a nice start. The team just needs to remain aggressive, as the job is not done quite yet.
