3 Seahawks Veterans Who Could Be Cut After the NFL Draft
The Seattle Seahawks don't have any heavy lifting left to do. They made a few depth signings and have around $15 million in cap space to make other small additions and welcome in the 2020 rookie class.
But there could be some big moves coming after the 2020 NFL Draft if the Hawks manage to find more cost-effective options or want to trim down areas of the roster that have a surplus of depth. Here are three veterans who could be out of Seattle following the draft.
3. DJ Fluker
This is the least likely scenario, but it's certainly one to keep an eye on. Seattle already let Germain Ifedi walk in free agency and added BJ Finney, Chance Warmack, Brandon Shell and Cedric Ogbuehi in free agency. Fluker is the highest paid of the team's O-linemen aside from Duane Brown, and the Seahawks could save $3.6 million cutting him loose. If they go after another offensive lineman, Fluker could see his days numbered depending on what transpires.
2. Bradley McDougald
This could already be viewed as McDougald's final year with the Hawks considering the team is hoping Delano Hill and Marquise Blair make the necessary progress to become starters. While McDougald had a fine season in 2019, if the youngsters impress the coaching staff, the team likely wouldn't have an issue letting McDougald go to save over $4 million. Again, this scenario isn't exactly expected, but it's possible given the circumstances.
1. Chris Carson
This is another potential move worth monitoring. Is it all that expected? Probably not. But Carson is coming off season-ending surgery and is heading into a contract year. If the Seahawks dump him, they'll save $2 million. Probably not entirely worth it if he's healthy, but if he loses a step or suffers a setback, he could find his way out of Seattle, especially if the team drafts a running back to join Rahsaad Penny and Travis Homer.
