Seahawks Would Be Instant Super Bowl Contenders if They Traded for Jalen Ramsey
By Scott Rogust
The NFL is slowly but surely matching the drama of the NBA. How so? Star players demanding trades from their respective teams.
Jadeveon Clowney and Minkah Fitzpatrick were the biggest names to move onto a new team, via a trade agreement. Shutdown cornerback Jalen Ramsey is the latest to follow the new trend in the league, requesting a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars, stating he "wants to win." Well, in a more explicit way than that, but still.
The Seattle Seahawks missed out on Fitzpatrick, whom the Miami Dolphins traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. If they were to trade for Ramsey, they'd be legitimate Super Bowl contenders this year.
The Seahawks does have the draft capital to meet the Jaguars' asking price of two first round picks, thanks to orchestrating a steal of a trade for Clowney.
When looking at Seattle's defense, the front seven is stacked with the likes of Clowney and Bobby Wagner. In turn, the Seahawks own the fourth best run defense in the entire league, as they have allowed 57.5 rushing yards per game thus far in 2019.
With the rush defense and offense as a whole clicking, it's the pass D that leaves something to be desired. Seattle has allowed 287.5 air yards per game (seventh-most in NFL) and surrendered 4 touchdowns.
Adding Ramsey to the mix will be an immediate upgrade to Seattle's secondary, to say the least. In the first two games of the season, Ramsey shut down Tyreek Hill and DeAndre Hopkins, limiting the two superstar receivers to a total of 56 yards on 7 receptions.
Let's be real here, the Seattle Seahawks are not looking to build through the NFL Draft, as their window to compete is now. If this franchise wants to win their second-ever Lombardi Trophy, they need to do whatever it takes to acquire Jalen Ramsey.
