Seahawks WR DK Metcalf Needs Knee Surgery and Could Miss Season-Opener
Well, all the hype surrounding rookie Seattle Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf has suddendly taken a bit of a dive. On Sunday night, the stud pass-catcher missed the preseason tilt with the Vikings with what was labeled a sore leg.
Now, however, we've learned it's a bit more serious than that. Following the loss to Minnesota, head coach Pete Carroll informed reporters Metcalf will undergo knee surgery this week.
While the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder isn't expected to be sidelined for too long, his status for the season-opener is completely up in the air. Carroll said he's optimistic the former Ole Miss standout can suit up, but Seattle will also want to be careful with Metcalf.
Rushing him back from injury and risking even more damage to his knee would undoubtedly be a mistake, so Carroll and GM John Schneider may end up holding him out for a game or two.
We'll obviously know more on Metcalf's status following the surgery, but this is already bad news for Seattle as they prepare for life after WR Doug Baldwin.
Though Russell Wilson is a magician with the pigskin in his hands, this team needs Metcalf back on the gridiron as soon as possible.
