Sean Newcomb to Begin Rehab Assignment at Triple-A
By Parker White
Earlier in the week, the Atlanta Braves placed left-handed pitcher Sean Newcomb on the seven-day concussion Injured List after he was hit in the head on a line drive by Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto.
On Saturday, the Braves announced that Newcomb will begin a rehab assignment tonight for Triple-A Gwinnett.
On Wednesday, Braves manager Brian Snitker talked about Newcomb's progress and described the method behind placing him on the concussion IL. Snitker mentioned that after a few days, Newcomb was beginning to feel the effects of a concussion, even though he'd passed the tests initially.
Snitker also said that when Newcomb feels right, he'll make a rehab appearance at Gwinnett, which he'll do tonight.
This event happened while Newcomb was starting a game against Philadelphia, but he's been used primarily as a reliever, which is why Bryse Wilson is still in line to start tonight's game for Gwinnett. He'll enter in relief, and if all goes well, he could be back with the big league club next week.
