Sean Payton Delivers Powerful Twitter Message and Calls for Change Amid Nationwide Protests
By Jerry Trotta
The murder of George Floyd has sparked civil unrest across the country, as protests, some of which unfortunately include vandalism and looting, have broken out in several notable American cities.
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is renowned for making his voice heard on social media, and he posted his first public comments since the demonstrations started with a powerful tweet on Tuesday.
This is how you make a statement.
Payton is implying that nationwide protests are needed to ensure that Floyd's wrongful death -- like so many innocent African-Americans before him -- doesn't go down as a forgotten tragedy after a few weeks of objections and chaos. Racism and police brutality as a whole will continue to remain prevalent problems if change isn't immediately instilled.
Saints star wide receiver Michael Thomas replied to his coach's statement on Twitter with an awesome vote of confidence.
It's not at all hyperbole to say that Payton's post, though simple and brief, is considerably more purposeful than anything we've seen, read or heard from our country's prominent political figures. As sad as it is, it's not at all surprising, and the 58-year-old HC deserves credit for taking a stand.
