VIDEO: Shannon Sharpe Describes Emotional Phone Call With Drew Brees Over Controversial Comments
By Michael Luciano
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has spent the last week apologizing profusely after teammates and media personalities, like former NFL tight end and "Undisputed" host Shannon Sharpe, called him out for his controversial comments about respecting the United States flag. Sharpe even asked Brees to retire. The two finally got to talk with one another after Sharpe's initial incendiary salvo, and Sharpe explained to Brees what exactly in his speech riled up so many members of the NFL community. By the end of it, Sharpe and Brees came to an understanding, with the Hall of Famer pleading for the NFL community as a whole to forgive him.
Sharpe claimed that he could feel Brees' pain in his voice, and he claims that all is forgiven after the Saints signal caller went out of his way to apologize.
Sharpe did acknowledge Brees has been a pillar of the local community for his charity work, and he doesn't think one slip-up should totally erase all the good work he has done in the city of New Orleans.
With Sharpe essentially walking back his earlier comments and Saints teammates like wide receiver Michael Thomas welcoming Brees back into the fold, it seems like the NFL as a whole is satisfied with Brees' apologies.
