Shareef O'Neal Reveals He Still Has the All-Star Game MVP Trophy That Helped Settle Shaq-Kobe Beef
By Scott Rogust
On Sunday, the world came top a standstill after finding out that Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was killed in a tragic helicopter accident, which claimed the lives of his teenage daughter Gianna and seven others.
Countless tributes flowed in, with one of the more emotional ones coming from Bryant's former teammate Shaquille O'Neal. The two stars of the Lakers dynasty famously capped their years together with an ever-growing beef, resulting in O'Neal's exit to the Miami Heat.
Yet the bad blood was squashed back in 2009 during that year's All-Star Game, when both were named Co-MVP. As it turns out, Bryant instructed O'Neal to give the trophy to his son, Shareef, in a moment that changed the course of the relationship between the two men (as they detailed in a tell-all television interview). The younger O'Neal revealed on Sunday that he still has possession of the incredible gift, over 10 years later.
In the sit-down interview that accompanies Shareef's tweet, O'Neal revealed that he had Bryant all wrong during their beef. To see Kobe perform a selfless act for his young son opened the eyes of Shaq.
Hence, their feud officially ended.
On the day that Bryant left us far too soon, it's things like this that will bring a smile to your face and tear to your eye. Kobe was a one-of-a-kind individual, and the world will miss him for it.
