Shaun Livingston Should Either End Career With Clippers or Head Into Retirement
After 14 solid seasons in the NBA, Shaun Livingston has given himself an ultimatum. The guard wants to play one more season before hanging his jersey up for good, but he wants it to be with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Livingston was waived by the Golden State Warriors after winning three NBA titles with the team, and now has his eyes set on the organization that he started his career with.
The Clippers drafted Livingston straight out of high school as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. In his third season in LA, Livingston blew out his knee in absolutely devastating fashion, causing him to miss the entire 2007-08 season. Once healthy, he moved around the league, playing for seven different teams over the next six seasons.
With gradually declining minutes over the last three seasons with Golden State, the Dubs waived the 33 year-old in order to stay under the NBA's hard cap while working on fleshing out their roster in the post-Kevin Durant era.
With a long and successful career behind him, there is still a real chance that Livingston calls it quits before the start of next season. And as the serious injury from early in his career seems to get worse with age, he sounds comfortable with the idea that his playing days may be over.
But if the opportunity presents itself to allow Livingston to join a newly built Clippers team that has added two superstars in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, he'll ought to be ready to suit up again just as quickly.
If Shaun Livingston can find himself a place in LA, he may be able to retire with one more NBA championship under his belt. But if this last season was it, three rings isn't too bad, either.
