Sixers Reportedly Sign Veteran Big Man Kyle O'Quinn
The 76ers couldn't convince Jimmy Butler to stay in town, but they're still hard at work on the open market.
The Sixers continue to add centers to the roster, as Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice reported the Sixers are signing Kyle O'Quinn.
O'Quinn last played for the Indiana Pacers and averaged 3.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in only 8.2 minutes per game. The veteran center was buried on the depth chart behind talented big men Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis.
Further reports detail the deal is a one-year contract worth the veteran's minimum, not a big surprise given O'Quinn's
The deal helps Philadelphia fill out the rest of its roster, as it has about $7.7 million remaining under the cap and only 10 players on the roster, including O'Quinn. The veteran center should see playing time when star Joel Embiid sits this season.
During exit interviews, Elton Brand and the Sixers front office acknowledged a Kawhi-like load management regimen could go a long way towards preserving Embiid's health come playoff time.
Embiid has missed significant time late in the season over the past two years thanks to injury, and the team is hoping O'Quinn can step in a reserve role to provide minutes while Embiid rests.
