Never Forget Skip Bayless Said Johnny Football Would Be Bigger Than LeBron James in Cleveland Someday
By Tyler Kemp
Johnny Manziel was supposed to be the next star quarterback in the NFL back in 2014. He was Heisman Trophy winner as a freshman, a first-round pick, and friends with every celebrity imaginable. One of the first star athletes who greeted Johnny Football with open arms after he landed with the Browns was LeBron James, who was a few months away from leaving Miami and returning to Cleveland. At the time, one of LeBron’s biggest critics, Skip Bayless, believed that Manziel would be the chosen one to lead Cleveland sports to the promised land, not James.
On Saturday, we are celebrating the six-year anniversary of one of the worst takes ever made by the outspoken Bayless. As a media personality, he gets away with saying blatantly incorrect things all the time, but on Twitter back in 2014, it really couldn't get any worse than this one right here.
Did he really say that?
Skip sure did. At the time, Skip did not know that James was returning home. Manziel was supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel for an abysmal history for the Cleveland Browns, who have been a doormat in the NFL for what seems like forever. If Skip had the nerve to say this now on Undisputed with his co-host Shannon Sharpe, just imagine the hilarity that would ensue.
By 2016, LeBron fulfilled his promise of bringing a championship back to The ‘Land. Now, he's on to the next step of his NBA career in Los Angeles. Money Manziel in 2016? He was out of the NFL, had a failed career in the CFL, and made a short stint in the AAF before it went under.
Another L for Skip here -- perhaps his biggest one.
