Some Within Celtics Organization Reportedly Regret Not Trading for Kawhi Leonard
By Michael Luciano

Even though it seemed like there was a 1 percent chance that Kawhi Leonard was going to stick around in Toronto, GM Masai Ujiri still went all in, trading DeMar DeRozan to bring in the Spurs superstar. All Kawhi has done to this point is lead the Raptors to their first-ever NBA Finals appearance.
Despite having more trade assets than anyone in the league as well as a viable path to contend in the East, Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics sat on their hands and did nothing. Some within the Celtics organization are having some major (non)buyer's remorse.

Yeah, you and 27 other teams. You're not special.
With a stockpile of draft picks that won't help a veteran-laden team right now, a package centered around those picks, Jaylen Brown, or Jayson Tatum could have been a lot more enticing than DeRozan's contract, Jakob Poeltl, and pick No. 29 overall in this year's draft.
Not only did they miss out on Kawhi, but he went to their own division and wreaked havoc on Brad Stevens and crew this year. He's still playing while Ainge and Boston are watching him on TV.

Ainge is a great deal maker, but can be risk-averse to a fault. Ujiri is willing to be a little more cavalier and go all-in, which has proven to pay off with this deal.
