By Karl Rasmussen
The baseball world was stunned to learn about the tragic loss of Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who passed away Monday afternoon in Texas.
Southlake Police Department has since released an official statement surrounding the death of the 27-year-old.
Skaggs was found unresponsive in his hotel room at 2:18 p.m. CT, and he was pronounced dead when authorities arrived on the scene. No foul play is suspected in his death.
The cause of his death remains unclear, but authorities said the investigation is still ongoing.
The Angels were scheduled to play a game against the Texas Rangers this evening, but it has since been cancelled.
Skaggs would have been 28 on July 13 and had started for the Angels as recently as Saturday. He logged a career 4.41 ERA and had made 96 major league starts across seven seasons, five of which he spent in Los Angeles.
We will provide more information as it becomes available, but for now our thoughts are with Skaggs' wife, Carli, and the rest of his family.
