VIDEO: Spike Lee Explains Controversial Incident During Knicks-Rockets and Won't Attend Another Game This Year
By Michael Luciano
The sky appears to be falling in New York City. The New York Knicks have managed to find a way to irritate and peeve Spike Lee, one of the most loyal celebrity fans of any American sports team. Video captured Lee in the middle of an argument with Madison Square Garden security in which he refused to leave the arena. Lee explained himself on "First Take" on Tuesday morning and claimed he refused to go outside because he believed he would not have been let back in.
Lee claims that the entrance he went in, which Knicks officials claim was the employee only entrance, was the same entrance he has entered through for 28 years. He also cites the fact that attendees of a "To Kill a Mockingbird" performance at MSG were allowed to go through the same entrance.
Stefan Bondy of the Daily News claims that owner James Dolan spoke with Lee at halftime in order to resolve the issue. However, that did little to smooth things over with Lee, who claims he will not attend another Knicks game this season.
If Dolan and the Knicks have turned against Lee, you might as well shut up shop. Hopefully this is nothing more than a simple misunderstanding by one or both parties rather than something that could lead to the team distancing themselves from one of their most famous fans.
