Spike Lee Pays Tribute to Kobe Bryant With Oscars 2020 Red Carpet Look
By Adam Weinrib
Spike Lee is the Hollywood thought leader most closely associated with NBA basketball, so it comes as no surprise that he used the biggest night in cinema to pay tribute to a fallen legend.
Spike showed up to the 2020 Academy Awards wearing a beautiful purple outfit replete with sneakers, featuring a few different instances of Kobe Bryant's iconic No. 24.
Didn't see the No. 8 on there, Spike, but the mission was most definitely accomplished here.
The last major awards show to be broadcast from Los Angeles was the Grammy Awards, which took place on the very day of Bryant's passing. Numerous artists, from Alicia Keys to Boyz II Men, worked hard to prepare last-minute tributes to the legend.
This time around, we expect a few more mentions of Bryant with a bit more forethought -- after all, the Laker great did win one of these statuettes just a few short years ago for "Dear Basketball."
Congratulations to the great director for getting the ball rolling early.
