Spurs Assistant Becky Hammon Interested in Long-Term Deal With Knicks as Head Coach
By Sean Facey
The New York Knicks are in the hunt for a new head coach following their firing of David Fizdale, and at least one person with a very unique background is showing interest in the job.
San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon is reportedly interested in making history by taking on the job for the Knicks, provided that she's signed to a long-term deal.
If Hammon does end up landing the job, it would be a momentous occasion for the NBA. She'd be the first female head coach in league history, and a deserving one at that.
Players and fellow coaches have had nothing but praise for her during her five years serving under Gregg Popovich.
The long-term aspect is the key here, though. The Knicks have gone through head coaches at a lightning pace over the past two decades, and the last thing she wants is to be just another name on the list of failed experiments.
If she's going to take the next step to become the head coach of one of the league's most disappointing teams, she deserves the chance with length and leniency as she tries to right the ship.
