Kawhi Leonard's focus is obviously on winning an NBA Championship at the moment, but as soon as the clock hits go on the offseason, his free agent destination will ignite yet another frenzy.

But if you believe the rumor mill, you can count out his old team, the San Antonio Spurs, from the fray.

Per word from Chris Carter, current media maven and former wide receiver, the team had no interest in offering him a max contract, before shipping him up to Toronto in the first place.

Sure, he's now got a healthy year under his belt after escaping an environment that had become toxic. But last season, that was a main sticking point surrounding his departure.

According to Carter, one of the reasons that Kawhi was so adamant about leaving the Spurs was their unwillingness to give him a max contract.

This is good news for the New York Knicks, who Carter insists are involved, and can rival anyone in terms of cap space this offseason. This means plenty of money for a max contract for Kawhi.

But money may not be the only factor in his decision. The next three games could very well determine everything about his biggest goals entering 2019-20. Buckle up.
