A Spurs-Warriors Tanking Battle Would Be a Perfect Subplot to a Wild and Wide-Open NBA Season
By Sean Facey
The 2019-20 NBA season has gotten off to an incredibly wild start, but nothing seems more out of the ordinary than the fact that both the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors are playing downright miserable basketball.
Once considered two of the best teams in the league, they own the second-worst and worst records, respectively, in the Western Conference this year. All things considered, it doesn't seem real.
And yet, an unexpected tanking battle between the Spurs and Warriors would be the perfect subplot for a completely upside down NBA season.
Seriously, how amazing would it be to watch the two most recent dynasties in the NBA both crash and burn for one year, resulting in the most confusing-yet-exciting race for the top overall pick ever?
It would be can't-miss entertainment. It would be like watching the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams both try to race their way to the worst record in the NFL.
Adding to the fun is the fact that the two coaches of these teams, Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr, just so happen to be among the best in the sport. After so many years of winning, they might have to compete to see who can lose the most games. It's perfect!
After so many years of the same-old, same-old, the NBA needs some chaos, and this tanking battle between the former behemoths of the league is perfect.
