Cardinals Re-Sign Adam Wainwright to One-Year Deal to Help Keep Rotation Intact
By Thomas Carannante

Uncle Charlie is staying in St. Louis, Cardinals fans!
On Tuesday, the team was reportedly closing in on a one-year deal with veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright, who has been a fixture in the Redbirds' rotation for as long as we can remember.

The club later confirmed the news with their own announcement.
The financials have yet to be disclosed, but this is certainly positive news for a team whose roster is about to be in flux given the number of free agents and question marks surrounding it.
Wainwright, 38, had a bit of a resurgent season in 2019, helping push the Cards to the NLCS. He went 14-10 with a 4.19 ERA (though a concerning 1.43 WHIP) in 31 starts, which was his best campaign since his All-Star performance in 2014.
One more year for Waino!

If Waino can maintain that consistency for 2020 and continue to provide veteran leadership for a largely young rotation that consists of Jack Flaherty, Dakota Hudson and Alex Reyes, who will hopefully be good to go for next year, the Cardinals should find themselves right in the thick of the playoff race once again.
