Stats Show Just How Disastrous Sam Dyson Has Been in Early Days as a Twin
The Twins made a couple moves to acquire veteran relief pitching at the deadline after designating both Mike Morin and Blake Parker for assignment. Unfortunately for Minnesota, one of those acquisitions has not lived up to expectations.
The Twins traded for Giants reliever Sam Dyson in hopes of shoring up their pen for the final stretch, but the veteran has struggled since the move to the American League.
As the tweet shows, Dyson was impressive with the Giants this season. He held a 4-1 record and 2.47 ERA in 49 games with San Francisco. The Twins were smart to target a reliever of his stature, as he proved to be a successful pitcher this year.
But since the trade, Dyson has been brutal. In two games with Minnesota, Dyson has only retired two of the 10 batters he's faced. He's allowed six runs and two walks in those appearances. That's good for an 81.00 ERA with the Twins. That certainly won't cut it.
Fortunately for Minnesota, their other deadline acquisition has been as advertised. Sergio Romo has yet to allow a run in 3.1 innings pitched since being acquired from Miami. His presence has helped ease the struggles of Dyson.
If the Twins are serious about contending this year, Dyson needs to figure it out. The Twins can't afford for their bullpen to continue to struggle, especially with the postseason being so bullpen dependent.
