Stats Show Russell Westbrook Was So Wrong About Patrick Beverley
By Jerry Trotta
It's no secret that Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley are mortal enemies on the hardwood. Of course, Brodie largely blames the Los Angeles Clippers' pesky defender for when he tore his meniscus back in 2013.
Since then, a matchup between the two guards has been must-see television, and Wednesday night's tilt between the Clips and Houston Rockets filled that bill. After the game, however, the disdain continued when Westbrook took a shot at Beverley by outlandishly asserting that he isn't a good defender because James Harden dropped 47 points.
While we are absolutely here for the beef between Russ and Beverley, Westbrook's claims hold absolutely no value. Harden made just one of the seven shots that he attempted when Beverley was guarding him, and that lone field goal was a transition layup.
Though it's a small sample size, Beverley held Harden to a lowly 14% clip on the night. To put those numbers into perspective, Harden, for the game, shot 12-for-26 (46%) from the floor. The Beard cooked defenders not named Pat Beverley, hitting on 11 of his 19 shot attempts (58%).
We have no qualms with Westbrook coming at Beverley, but his indifference would be much more captivating if he fact-checked himself before unleashing his diatribes.
Sure, Harden dropped 47, but that's to no fault of Pat Bev, who was absolutely relentless when matched up with the Rockets star.
