The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped some news Tuesday that's sure to bring a smile to fans' faces. Former players William Gay and David Johnson are joining Mike Tomlin's staff as coaching interns. The two will gain important experience watching the rest of the staff in action, their first taste of what could be a productive second act as NFL coaches.

Gay is a former Steelers defensive back that played parts of 10 seasons with the team. He tallied 11 interceptions and five defensive touchdowns during his time there, becoming a fan favorite in Pittsburgh.

Johnson played five seasons in the Steel City, moving around from tight end to fullback, totaling 296 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. Although his career was brief, Johnson was known as a big locker room presence.

These two additions may seem minor, but the two former players could be boosts to the Steelers coaching room this season. And who knows? Permanent assistant positions could be in store down the line.
