Steelers and GM Kevin Colbert Agree to One-Year Extension
By Scott Rogust
The Pittsburgh Steelers overachieved in 2019, considering all they've been through the previous offseason. And the leader of the front office is being rewarded.
On Wednesday, the Steelers and general manager Kevin Colbert agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension. Colbert will now return for his 21st year with the team.
"I am happy to announce we have extended Kevin Colbert's contract for an additional year," said Steelers President Art Rooney II, via the Steelers' official website. "Kevin continues to play a key role in our success and his dedication to our personnel efforts is unparalleled. We are pleased he will lead those efforts for at least one more year."
Colbert's current deal was set to expire following the 2020 NFL Draft, and now, he's under contract until the conclusion of the 2021 draft.
Last month, Rooney remained optimistic he'd be able to retain Colbert. As for why the general manager doesn't pursue long-term deals, it's his preference to sign year-to-year contracts.
Even with losing Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell, the Steelers competed until the bitter end for a playoff spot. Going 8-8 wasn't a bad thing considering their outlook earlier in the year.
Now, Colbert will look to continue building the Steelers and help them make a return to the playoffs.
