Steelers LB Mark Barron Honored By NFLPA After Giving Out 1,500 Turkeys in Alabama

Thanksgiving is all about showing appreciation for those around you. That's exactly what Steelers LB Mark Barron did, as he gave away 1,500 turkeys in his native Alabama to struggling families.
For his efforts, Barron was honored by the league and named the Week 12 NFLPA Community MVP.

It's obvious that with an effort this big, Barron wasn't doing the good deed for a reward. He genuinely wanted to help the people he grew up around, showing he never forgot his roots.

Barron grew up in Mobile, AL and played his college ball for the Crimson Tide, so his connection to the state runs deep.
Steelers teammate Maurkice Pouncey also helped to distribute the turkeys alongside Barron.
Barron joins other generous NFL players in earning this award, such as Richard Sherman who financially aided a Pop Warner team to a National Youth Championship.

This is the side of sports we often overlook, but is just as important as all the other aspects.
