Mike Tomlin Pretty Much Places All the Blame on the Browns for Thursday Night Brawl
By Andy Loughmiller
The brawl between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football remains a hot topic of conversation. The recriminations are ongoing as fingers continue to be pointed left and right.
For his part, however, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has decided that his team is free of blame in this situation and has "nothing to learn from it."
Well, he's right about the first part. Aside from die-hard Browns fans, nobody is pointing the finger at Mason Rudolph for the indefiniteyl suspended Myles Garrett's decision to smack him in the head with his own helmet. Heck, several have even commended Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey for defending his quarterback and escalating the entire scuffle, earning a three-game suspension in the process.
However, the second part of his comment seems like an exaggeration. Does Tomlin really not think his team could have learned anything from Thursday night's melee?
Pouncey is a key part of this offensive line and will now miss a trio of games as long as the NFL upholds his suspension. We get it, defending his quarterback was the noble thing to do in many respects, but to suggest that a guy like him has nothing to learn from the situation feels like a stretch.
This isn't to say that Garrett isn't the most glaring offender here. That's self-evident. But it rather often takes two to tango, and Tomlin and Co. shouldn't consider their hands to be entirely clean following Thursday's debacle.
