The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a big loss in free agency when defensive tackle Javon Hargrave signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. He got a three-year, $39 million deal and the Steelers are down to three defensive tackles on the payroll, few of which are close to as talented as Hargrave.

Cameron Heyward is the best tackle remaining, and he is a free agent after the 2020 season. The Steelers need to replace Hargrave and blew a chance to do so when Dontari Poe signed with the Dallas Cowboys.

Like Hargrave, Poe can play nose tackle and both players had four sacks in 2019. Poe did that in only 11 games as he tore his quad late in the year with the Carolina Panthers. That could have concerned the Steelers, but the goal should be improving the entire team in order to maximize the chances of success for however long Ben Roethlisberger continues to play.

The Steelers have less than $10 million in cap space as of right now and will have to act fast to avoid missing out on a replacement for Hargrave. Denver's Shelby Harris could be an option if the Steelers cut salary elsewhere on the roster.

The team is now scrambling to replace Hargrave when a two-time Pro Bowler in Poe was there for the taking.
