Steelers Once Again Place LB Ryan Shazier on Reserve/Retired List
By Michael Luciano
Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier continues to work his way back from that horrifying spine injury he suffered in 2017, and Pittsburgh made sure that he remains a part of the Steeler family as he continues to improve.
Shazier, who was about to see his contract expire this offseason, was placed on the reserve/retired list, a move that GM Kevin Colbert claimed ensured his "continued inclusion" within the Steelers organization.
Shazier has been on the team's reserve list for the last two seasons, enabling the Steelers to keep him on the roster. A two-time Pro Bowl linebacker who was picked in the first round in 2014, the former Ohio State star last played a down of NFL football in 2017, when a nightmarish injury against the Cincinnati Bengals forced him to undergo spinal stabilization surgery.
While some believed Shazier would never even walk again, let alone play football, Shazier has since regained full mobility in his legs.
While the odds of Shazier returning to football appear unlikely, he's proved the doubters wrong at every juncture in his career, and he's more than capable of completing his amazing comeback.
