Steelers Signing Hometown Kid Stefen Wisniewski Proves They're Fully Invested in Protecting Ben Roethlisberger
The Pittsburgh Steelers have to protect Ben Roethlisberger in 2020 after the veteran appeared in only two games last season. He suffered a non-contact elbow injury, but Roethlisberger has still taken a beating throughout his career.
The Steelers decided to help the problem by signing Stefen Wisniewski in free agency.
The Pittsburgh native and Penn State alum heads home after one season with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. This followed a stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, where the lineman won his first Super Bowl.
Wisniewski entered the league in 2011 with the Oakland Raiders as a center and switched over to guard the past few seasons. The Steelers only have one true guard under contract in David DeCastro. That sets up Wisniewski to be a regular starter once again after a few seasons in a backup role.
The Steelers want to make another run at a Super Bowl before Roethlisberger decides to retire. Protecting the veteran is the first step toward any potential success and adding a two-time Super Bowl champion is not a bad start.
