In the wake of witnessing the worst 22-game start in franchise history, the New York Knicks' braintrust pulled the trigger and fired head coach David Fizdale on Friday evening.

Until a new HC is appointed, the Knicks subsequently announced that assistant Mike Miller will serve as the interim head coach.

With an abundance of rumors and potential linkings likely to surface in the coming weeks, Stephen A. Smith appears to be ahead of the game. In an appearance on NBA Countdown, the "First Take" co-host asserted that he expects Jason Kidd to emerge as a viable candidate for the vacancy.

Kidd, currently serving as an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers, has previously coached for the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, accumulating a 183-190 record in five seasons.

It's certainly not a farfetched theory considering that Kidd was an evident fan favorite at Madison Square Garden in his one year running the point for the Knicks in 2012.

Not to mention that he's likely looking to get back into coaching watching Frank Vogel lead the Lakers to a league-best 19-3 record.

Of course, Stephen A's hunch is nothing more than, well, a hunch. He does, however, claim to be in the know of rumors surrounding the Knicks, so stay tuned for further updates regarding the vacancy.

We don't doubt that Steve Mills and Scott Perry are looking to get this predicament sorted out as soon as possible.
