Steve Kerr Reveals Klay Thompson Unlikely to Play This Season as He Recovers From Torn ACL

If this report holds true, the Golden State Warriors ambitions of returning to the NBA finals have just hit a roadblock.
In a recent interview with NBC Sports Bay Area, head coach Steve Kerr disclosed that he doesn't expect Klay Thompson, who is currently recovering from July ACL surgery, to play in 2019-2020.
"It's unlikely that he's going to play this year," Kerr said. "So we have to understand that. You have to look at it realistically. I had an ACL in college, and I missed a whole season. Generally, an ACL for a basketball player is a full-year recovery, and if it's a full year for Klay, that puts them out for the season."
Kerr did leave the door open for a Thompson return, but stated that in all likelihood he'll miss the season.
"He's not in pain," Kerr continued. "He can get out there and shoot around, but he's got to let it heal, and he can't run, he can't cut. So we'll see him in the weight room, in the training room, getting his work in."
Thompson has been making tremendous strides in his rehab. Thompson himself even previously stated that he was anticipating a return to the hardwood after the All-Star break in February.
Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but the burden on the shoulders of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and the newly-acquired D'Angelo Russell just became that much more pressing.
