Steve Spurrier Trolled Tennessee Following Georgia State Upset
By Jerry Trotta
When you really think about it, only one thing was missing from Georgia State's improbable upset win over Tennessee at Neyland Stadium on Saturday: a little bit of banter from former longtime (12 years) Florida Gators head coach Steve Spurrier.
Shortly after one of his former assistant coaches unseated the Volunteers, the decorated HC delivered a cold-blooded troll job into the hearts of Tennessee and their fans.
"They just thoroughly beat Tennessee,” Spurrier told Andy Staples of The Athletic. “It wasn’t any fluke. There weren’t any fluky plays. They were 26-point underdogs, is that right? Rocky Top might be Rocky Bottom for a week or two until they win one, I guess."
We'll hazard a guess and say that Spurrier was ecstatic for Georgie State boss Shawn Elliott, who served as an offensive line coach, running game adviser, and ultimately a co-offensive coordinator on Spurrier's staffs during his stint with South Carolina.
Before taking the job at Georgia State, Elliott was even named interim head coach of the Gamecocks after Spurrier stepped down in 2015.
Even when Spurrier is LONG removed from competing against the Vols on the gridiron, he still manages to hand the program L's and bring home W's for the Gators.
If that doesn't cement his legend status in Gainesville, we don't know what does.
