Study Shows NFL Has Been Favoring Cowboys and Hurting Eagles With Scheduling in Recent Years
By Scott Rogust
The Dallas Cowboys are known as "America's Team" by their diehard fans, but they are universally despised by the rest of the league. Try as they might, though, nobody comes close to hating the Cowboys like Philadelphia Eagles fans do, who have always complained that Dallas receives an unfair advantage from the league.
It seems like the Eagles have a legitimate bone to pick with the NFL.
Sharp Football Analysis created a study to determine which teams have gotten the advantage in terms of primetime scheduling, preparation, and rest for the past 10 seasons. As it turns out, the Cowboys received the third-strongest benefit from NFL scheduling, while the Eagles have the fourth-worst.
Perhaps what makes the Cowboys' advantage much more egregious is that their fellow NFC East rival, the New York Giants, were the second-most negatively impacted team by scheduling in the entire NFL. So that means Dallas has an easier time facing New York and Philadelphia, because both squads barely have any time to rest!
Additionally, the Cowboys have had just nine road games on short rest this decade. Meanwhile, the Eagles played 19 road contests with a lack of rest! This is absolutely damning.
Dallas' lack of traveling on short rest is partially due to them always playing at home for their annual Thanksgiving game. Since the inception of Thursday Night Football in 2006, the Cowboys have only played two road games that day of the week, but none of them were on short rest. Why's that? They competed in the Thanksgiving game the week prior.
The Philadelphia faithful should feel livid about this study, but we guarantee the Cowboys Nation won't be complaining too much about it. Hey, at least the Eagles can brag that they won a Super Bowl this decade, something the Cowboys haven't done since 1996. Silver linings, people.
